## Letter 3 — Brühl, December 16, 1849, to a friend Two historical translation pages compared. These also occur in the original family packet. The historical identification is Gotthold Leukroth/Lenkroth, later the Mount Vernon correspondent and David's brother-in-law. **Corrections:** “Halben Acker” concerns land under police attachment, not an old father under arrest. The reporting deadline is May, not March. The concealed correspondence name is Wilhelm Meyer, not Müller. These corrections govern both the translation and any family-history inference. **Disagreements kept open:** The historical translation reads brother Friedrich, but the manuscript continuation appears to read brother Heinrich. Neither reading warrants adding or identifying a sibling. The older Königshütte reading conflicts with the prior Königslutter reading and later contextual references; the workplace remains qualified. A phrase about being free and confinement does not prove a literal prison stay. The historical translator's calendar gloss for Johanni is not an independently verified manuscript date. **Limits:** The six-stanza poem is not translated in these historical pages. A heading identifying August as correspondent does not prove he composed the poem. This letter and Letter 2 complement one another; they are not two sides of a reply exchange.
