## Letter 8 — Wiehe, September 29, 1852 Three historical image files compared: an incomplete version and a complete two-page version. These overlap the translations already found in Hilpert Letters 1. **Agreement and clarification:** The completed translation supports childbirth as the context of Christel's illness. It does not justify a diagnosis of epilepsy. Cologne departure September 17 and arrival September 28 give an eleven-day journey; the incomplete version's seventeen-day reading should not replace that chronology. The house sale for 450 thalers, payment expected October 10, Mother's wish to emigrate and August's inability to accompany them remain the central findings. **Unresolved:** Departure-day numerals in October, small money amounts, the ownership wording for land and some travel references still disagree. “Pomerania” and a supposed sister “Ihna” in the old rendering are not established places/persons. No new sibling should be added. Use a mid-October departure plan rather than a verified sailing date or ship. **Narrative implication:** September 29, 1852 remains the last secure dated letter by August in these groups. Plans for America do not establish that he sailed. Reviewed September 24, 2026. See the consolidated historical translation comparison and revised connected narrative in Research. Original source files are unchanged.
