Her family
Beulah was the daughter of Phillip Henrich Hilpert, Otto’s brother, and Alice Caroline Padham. She grew up with her brother Fred and sister Evelyn. Her memoir connects the Hilpert farm with her mother’s Padham and Saunders relatives.
Childhood on the farm
In her own account, Beulah remembers attending Oakview School with her siblings, walking to meet the school bus, buying treats at a country store, and gathering flowers to bring home to their mother. She also recalls family outings to the coast and choosing a Christmas tree with her father. These are Beulah’s memories, distinct from Eileen Townsend’s album narrative.
Writing for the next generation
Her memoir, My Childhood Memories of Life on the Family Farm, is dedicated to her son Gary Rex Kinsey and daughter Gail Lenore Kinsey Welker-Newell, in memory of her parents. The surviving pages preserve household details and family traditions in her own voice. Read her memoir, transcribed from the family’s copy with its dedication, fourteen numbered pages and handwritten additions.
