Kolsrud, Krokhol and the family he came from
Gustav Albert was born on 2 April 1877 and baptized on 1 July in Østre Aker. His parents, Hans Peter Kristiansen and Inger Helene Olsdatter, lived at Kolsrud under Lambergsæter. Hans was a husmann, a tenant smallholder. The exact modern parcel has not been established.
His parents had married at Ski in 1868. Hans, then described as a sawmill master at Kroghol, was the son of Christian Andreassen; Inger Helene's father was Ole Andreassen. Their older children included Karl Hagbart, Jørgen Olaf, Anna Sophie and Anna Matilde. The two daughters are distinct people, and Anna Sophie's absence from the 1875 census does not prove that she had died.
A name that followed a place
At his confirmation in Ski on 27 September 1891, Gustav appears as Gustav Albert Krokol. The birth and baptism dates match the Østre Aker register exactly. A 1901 moving-out entry calls him Gustav Albert Krokhol and records a certificate for a move to Kristiania. These place-associated names belong to the man later called Hansen.
A probable 1891 census entry places him as a young lodger at Snikedal in Kråkstad. His mother and older brothers were then in Kristiania. A possible death record suggests that Gustav lost his father in 1881, shortly before turning four, but that identification still needs a family or probate link.
Work, marriage and a daughter
Gustav married Marie Sofie Anstensen at Gamle Aker on 26 January 1902. The marriage links him to his birthplace, father and Ski confirmation. Their daughter Bergliot was born that March; her August baptism records the family's address as Urtegata 12.
Gustav's occupation was dockworker. The Norwegian abbreviation Bryggearb. refers to waterfront work; an earlier reading as brewery work was mistaken. His brother Karl also became a dockworker, although no shared employer or employment arrangement has been found.
A strong probable 1900 census match places Gustav and Marie at Vestre Elvebakke 12. It calls them married two years before the documented wedding and lacks their complete birthdays. It may show an earlier household, but cannot replace their established marriage date.
Gustav and Johan were different men
Marie had previously had a son, Sigurd, with Johan Gustavsen. Sigurd was born on 14 August 1894, baptized at home two days later, and died on 1 October. Johan was an unmarried mechanical worker, born about 1871, at Thorvald Meyers gate 33. He was not another name for Gustav.
No marriage between Johan and Marie has been established. Marie's 1902 marriage to Gustav was recorded as her first. Later families of men named Johan Gustavsen remain research candidates, rather than proven extensions of Sigurd's paternal family.
January 1907
Gustav died at the city hospital on 31 January 1907. The notification, entered the next day, names his home as Hausmannsgate 30, his wife as Marie Sofie, and one surviving minor child. Marie was the informant. No estate assets were reported.
The record rounds Gustav's age to thirty; his documented birthday makes him twenty-nine. A later note records a certificate issued for Marie's remarriage in January 1914. His cause of death and burial place remain unknown, and the general reference to the city hospital does not identify a particular campus.
