Getting to know Bernhard
Bernhard’s story takes us between Vadsø and the family home at Larsnes in Tana. His birth record names him Johan Bernhard Harjo, born on 14 November 1891 to Johan Ludvig Harjo and Anna Kathrine Børresen.
In 1910, the family listed him at Larsnes but recorded that he was temporarily away. Another census entry places him in Vadsø, working as a merchant’s servant. The matching birth date helps us follow the same young man across the two records.
Bernhard died on 13 July 1913, aged 21, and was buried at Tana cemetery on 16 July. We have only a small part of his story so far. A photograph, a letter or a memory passed down through the family could help us learn more about him.
